Let’s take a walk through Santa Barbara’s market

Mission Santa Barbara is a fine example of 18th-century religious architecture, with beautiful gardens and stunningly detailed interiors.

Work up an appetite with a stroll through Shoreline Park, then dine over the water at Stearns Wharf.

Trees, parks, waterfalls, and botanical gardens add to Santa Barbara’s natural beauty. The Santa Barbara Certified Farmers Market Association of Santa Barbara is a non-profit corporation founded in 1983 to provide California farmers in historic locations with direct access to marketing their local produce. Our association of 120 farmers, owned and managed by its members and its board of directors, is committed to helping advance local farmers and protect the environment by maintaining and restoring nearby farmlands.

SBCFMA works diligently to offer the freshest and most nutritious foods our rich local farmland has to provide to the community. Markets strengthen ties with the local community, expand our outdoor recreation through weekly events and keep our locals active. Every week, our farmers harvest a varied and nutritious crop from places as far away as California’s Central Valley and very close to the foothills. Seasonal variety is available all year round, whether it rains or shines. To you from the hands of the farmer!

I love going to the farmers’ market. There are a lot of great farms there. I buy organic vegetables, fruits, flowers, herbs, organic eggs, and grass-fed beef and pork. And also delicious local honey.

History

The Santa Barbara Certified Farmers Market Association (SBCFMA) was founded in 1983 as a not-for-profit mutual benefit corporation to provide California farmers with direct access to markets for their products in the local community. Santa Barbara’s first farmers’ market was held at Mission Santa Barbara in 1979, one of California’s top 20 farmers’ markets.

Some of the original members, including Randy Wade, Tom Shepherd, and Robert “BD” Douch, can still be found selling their products at Santa Barbara farmers’ markets. Over the years, our Member-Owners & Managers Association has grown to approximately 130 members who participate in our 6 weekly Certified Farmers’ Markets in Santa Barbara, Goleta, Montecito, Carpinteria and Solvang.

SBCFMA is committed to the principles of producer-to-consumer direct marketing, working diligently to bring the freshest and most nutritious foods our rich local farmland has to offer directly to the public. We hope you enjoy your shopping at the farmer’s market to the fullest!
