Hard Rock’s philosophy has always been based on firm values, such as the importance of being authentic and independent, as well as a shared commitment to preserving wildlife and protecting the environment.
What’s so special about Hard Rock Cafe?
1. It all started with a hankering for a burger.
While residing in London in 1971, friends Issac Tigrett & Peter Morton set out to find a good American burger, which was difficult to find across the pond at the time. They opted to establish their own American-style restaurant in such a classic Rolls Royce dealership on Old Park Lane after falling short. The original location still exists.
2. The logo was motivated by… car parts.
Celeb artist Alan Aldridge (who did work with the Beatles!) designed the logo to look like a Chevrolet hood ornament. The colors were supposed to be red, white, and blue, however, they decided against it in the end.

3. Paul McCartney gave the café’s first concert.
Paul McCartney and Wings performed an impromptu concert at the London café in 1973 as a warm-up for their UK tour. Every year, more than 15,000 live music concerts are held in locations all over the world.
4. The well-known T-shirts were created by chance.
The original London café sponsored a local sports (soccer) team, whose shirts bore the logo. The extras were given to frequent customers, and before the staff knew it, people were showing up questioning them. The owners eventually had to build a shack outside of the café to move the retail operation. It now accounts for nearly 40% of all business.
5. A-list celebrities became regulars there at the original restaurant.
Eric Clapton began visiting the London café and ultimately requested that owner Issac Tigrett hang his guitar over his favorite bar stool to “mark his spot.” A week later, Pete Townshend from The Who mailed his guitar to the café to secure his own spot, launching the restaurant’s now-legendary selection of instruments.
6. The café’s first waitress is still employed by the chain.
Rita Gilligan was the classic restaurant’s first hire in 1971, and she still travels the world as a Hard Rock spokesperson.
7. They serve some incredible burgers.
Every year, the chain hosts a World Burger Tour, during which new, limited-edition burgers inspired by recipes from around the world are added to the menu. Local Legendary Burgers are inspired this year by cities such as Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam as well as Buenos Aires in Argentina.
8. There’s even a song about it.
Carole King, a self-professed Hard Rock burger fan, wrote “Hard Rock Café,” which became a hit in 1977. “After a hard day’s work, I guarantee / There just isn’t anywhere better to be…” the lyrics say.
9. The cafés also function as epic music museums.
Are the items in Hard Rock Cafe real? Hard Rock’s memorabilia collection has increased exponentially since Clapton and Townshend initially donated their guitars. The current collection contains over 80,000 items, including incredible pieces such as Michael Jackson’s red “Beat It” jacket, John Lennon’s glasses, Madonna’s “Like A Virgin” wedding gown, Jimi Hendrix’s Flying V guitar, as well as Elvis Presley’s 24-karat gold leaf grand piano, that he played at his Graceland home.
10. They can be found all over the world.
The first café in the United States opened in Los Angeles in 1982. But there are now over 200 restaurant locations spread across 68 countries. The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino brand debuted in Las Vegas in 1995. And today, visitors can stay at 23 hotels and gamble at 11 casinos around the world.
