Police arrest Former UFC heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez – San Jose, California. The former UFC heavyweight was arrested on Monday and charged with attempted murder. UFC legend Cain Velasquez has been arrested for the Morgan Hill shooting in California. The San Jose Police Department made the announcement Tuesday afternoon.    

The two-time UFC heavyweight champion was then arrested by police, who initially arrested the former mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter on suspicion of attempted murder. Authorities did not provide more details about the shooting but said Velasquez, 39, was arrested.   

According to prison records, Velazquez remained in police custody until Tuesday and was due to appear in court Wednesday. Velasquez is expected to appear in a California court on Wednesday with the charges. Velasquez is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, according to Fox News. Velasquez was held without bail until his first court hearing on Wednesday.  

Late Monday, online records showed that Velasquez was held at Santa Clara County’s central jail without bail. According to prison records, the two-time UFC heavyweight champion is currently in custody without bail and is expected to face trial Wednesday in Santa Clara County Superior Court for the first time. The former UFC champion was arrested Monday on charges of shooting at a citizen on the city’s southwestern outskirts. Former UFC champion Cain Velasquez has been rushed to jail in California following a shooting in San Jose, a man rushed to hospital with non-fatal injuries.  

San Jose Police (AEDT) announced Wednesday that Velasquez had been arrested for the shooting in which an adult male was hospitalized with non-fatal injuries. Velázquez was charged with a gun, but the cause of the shooting is still under investigation, police said. Velasquez was the only suspect in the shooting, according to police. San Jose police announced Monday a shooting near the Monterey Freeway and Bailey Avenue intersection and tweeted the news of Velasquez’s arrest the following morning. 

Both the cause and circumstances of the shooting were unknown to officers on Monday, who closed off the intersection where the shooting took place for several hours while inspecting the corner where the shooting took place on Monday.   

Officers responded to the shooting on Monday evening and found a man shot at least once. The man was arrested at the scene of the Morgan Hill shooting, although no details were provided on what happened or caused the incident. It was later revealed that it was Cain Velasquez. NBC Bay Area first reported Velasquez’s involvement in the Morgan Hill, California, shooting.   

On social media, San Jose police said Tuesday morning that Velasquez was booked into the Santa Clara County jail on attempted murder charges related to the previous night’s shooting. Since Tuesday morning, Cain Velasquez has been in UFC police custody, when authorities later confirmed Velasquez was involved in the alleged shooting.  

Velasquez had a brief stint with WWE, competing with UFC opponent Brock Lesnar in the short program. Velasquez was ousted by Fabrizio Werdum in June 2015 and finished with a record of 14 wins and three losses in MMA.   

In December 2012, Velazquez won his second UFC heavyweight title by defeating teenager dos Santos. Velasquez defeated Brock Lesnar for the UFC heavyweight title in 2010 and became the champion in 2012 after losing to teenager Dos Santos. Velasquez wins 9-0. Perfection, including a first-round knockout of Pride and UFC legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, first-round TKO over Brock Lesnar (Brock Lesnar), the UFC heavyweight champion.   

After two more fights, beating Travis Brown at UFC 200 in Las Vegas and a 26-second knockout loss to Francis Ngannou in 2019, Velazquez quit MMA and turned to professional wrestling. Velasquez turned professional wrestling after retiring from MMA in 2019. Velasquez started his professional wrestling career in 2019, joining Mexican professional wrestling promotion Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide before joining WWE. After his last bout in the UFC, the former UFC champion entered pro wrestling, a quick knockout loss to Francis Nagano in February 2019 that dropped his record to 14-3.   

According to CBS Sports, Velasquez lost to his former UFC rival, reigning WWE Champion Brock Lesnar, in 2019. Velasquez (14-3) has long been regarded as one of the greatest heavyweights in MMA, and that distinction arguably stands alone aside from numerous injuries that ruined his career. Gilroy resident Velasquez is a former UFC Mixed Martial Arts World Heavyweight Champion. After releasing in 2006, it didn’t take long for MMA promoters to catch Cain Velasquez making his Strikeforce pro debut before moving to the UFC in 2008.
