Following an accelerated increase in Covid-19 cases, the Netherlands declared a state of emergency in December 2020. In January, the country’s first evening check-in time since World War II was obtained, sparking outrage in major urban areas. The Netherlands has since eased restrictions to return to normalcy, albeit the Dutch Prime Minister has apologized for easing restrictions too soon and has restored some of them.
