What is the scenario regarding Italy’s travel restrictions from the U.S.? On April 26, the ban on non-essential travel between cities and regions was lifted. Italy has announced that there will be no exemptions for football fans travelling to an England match in Rome on July 3.

The U.S. Department of State Level 3 Travel Council recommends that travellers reconsider travelling to Italy due to COVID-19. Because the risk of travelling to Italy has been deemed “very high” by the CDC due to Covid-19, travel to Italy should be avoided where possible.

What are the restrictions you should keep in mind?

If you must travel to Italy, make sure you are vaccinated and have a good track record for COVID-19 vaccines before you travel. If you are NOT vaccinated and have up-to-date COVID-19 shots, IT IS RECOMMENDED. In addition to the advice above, stay home and isolate for 5 full days after travel. If you are not tested, refrain from travelling for 10 full days after your last close contact with a person with COVID-19. If you develop symptoms of COVID-19 after travel, isolate and consult your doctor for testing advice.

Travellers to the U.S. can provide documentation from a licensed healthcare provider that they have recovered from COVID-19 up to 90 days before travel. Travellers from Canada, Japan, or the U.S. may prove that travellers from Canada have fully recovered from a previous COVID-19 infection.

If travellers are suspected of having coronavirus due to high fever or visible symptoms, border authorities may require such persons to be tested. If travellers arrive by air or sea, Spanish border guards will take their temperature and visually assess their health status.

These travellers must notify the local health authority of their arrival in Italy and receive a negative result at the end of the quarantine.
