Friends Reunion was so emotional, says Courtney

Friends is a comedy TV show from the ’90s, shot in Manhattan, New York. The six characters of friends: Monica Geller, Rachel Green, Phoebe Buffay, Ross Geller, Chandler Bing, and Joey Tribbiani, played their roles in it. This show is about these friends going through life experiences like heartbreaks, love, marriage, divorce, children, fights, losing jobs, getting successful, and all kinds of emotions together. They started playing these characters in their 20’s and lasted over ten years, where every character is trying to find their happiness and success, representing the real meaning of a true friend.

Friends Reunion

Friends launched in September 1994 and ended in May 2004, completing ten seasons. Now, it’s been more than a decade. The stars of the show are getting together for a reunion special after the NBC sitcom ended. It was declared in February 2020 that the fans of the series would get a chance to see the whole cast together again, and it is going to be unscripted.

The reunion was confirmed when the actors shared a photo used for their 1995 Rolling Stone Cover. According to sources, they will receive at least 2.5 million dollars each and serve as executive producers. They will shoot the special reunion at Warner Bros. Studio’s Stage 24, Burbank, California, where they originally taped it.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the outlets reported that the shooting was postponed back to May in March 2020. It would be ready to be premiered on HBO’s Max this year.

Courtney Cox told Jimmy Kimmel about the shoot and that they were supposed to be shooting it for two days in mind-March but got postponed due to the pandemic. She said that earlier that they conversed with the producers and organized one meeting with everyone except for David Schwimmer as he was in NY at that time. It was unveiled the subsequent month that the cast would gather money for the pandemic relief and let one lucky winner and five guests visit the reunion shoot once it would be safe to do so. Fans can win the entry by donating money in the contest that is a part of the All-In Challenge. Matthew Perry tweeted in November 2020 that the reunion is rescheduled for March. Shooting began and ended in April 2021.

Courtney Cox told Ellen DeGeneres that they shot the unscripted Friends Reunion special, which was more emotional than anyone expected it to be. She said that it was unbelievable, on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

There was no disclosure about the HBO Max reunion special by the Facebook Watch Series 9 Months host. She says being with Courtney on Stage 24 with the Friends costars- Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston- was emotional.

The reunion was to be aired last year but got postponed due to the pandemic. She said when the reunion will air on HBO Max, the viewers could expect some surprises. The taping was done lately at the original soundstage, Stage 24, Warner Bros. Studio by Ben Winston in Burbank. The actors are executive producers producing with the creators of Friends Marta Kauffman, Kevin Bright, and David Crane. The co-executive producers are Emma Conway and James Longman.

On Ellen DeGeneres’s show, Courtney remembers the shooting of the sitcom’s iconic opening scene where the cast is dancing in a Burbank backlot fountain designed to look like Central Park’s Cherry Hill Fountain. She said, remembering that they were in that fountain for a long time. Somebody thought it would be just fun, and she cleared what really happens and that was not really fun dancing in a fountain for hours and hours.

She proceeds that she remember Matthew Perry saying at one point that he could not remember the time when he was not in this fountain. They did not know each other well at that point. She felt like how much longer does she have to pretend that she loves dancing in the water.

Ellen asked Courtney if the reunion had brought their memories back, to which she replied that she has the worst memory. Everything came up that she forgot about. But it was great and fun for all of them. There were lots of surprises, and it was fantastic.

On the Graham Norton Show, David Schwimmer, who played the role of Ross Geller, Monica’s brother, verified that they would be presenting in the reunion as themselves, not in the characters. He explained that everything is unscripted. They all are themselves.

The release date has yet to be announced by HBO.
