The Galactic StarCruiser is modeled after a cruise through the galaxy far, far away and will have more in common with a river cruise or an ocean giant than with a typical hotel.
The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience
The Galactic Starcruiser is located next to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, home of Star Wars: Galaxies Edge, and was built for an immersive amusement park experience. What they develop gives us an excellent opportunity to weave a story around them, “said Sara Thacher, creative director of research and development at Walt Disney Imagineering. “We see it as one of the Star Cruisers, where our passengers travel to the galaxy far, far away and then return to their planet to take a trip to Batuu where they can continue their story. That’s what an immersive cruise through a fictional galaxy entails.
Upon arrival, guests enter a launchpad that jumps into hyperspace and docks at Halcyon, your home base, for the next two nights. The floodgates open with a satisfying roar, and when you enter the atrium, you are immediately in the Star Wars universe.
During their two-day trip, they will meet Chewbacca, Rey, Kylo Ren, droids, and crew members who will be part of the story. Think of it as a real role-playing game, but with a brand new account and familiar characters.
Mingled with these planned events, “we get all sorts of unexpected twists and turns for the characters that will guide us through the experience,” she says.
Guests aboard the Galactic Star Cruiser will be the first to participate in the new lightsaber experience. “Our passengers will decide which character they want to help, whether to support the resistance, allow the First Order or go on loot in the underworld. Earlier this year, Disney shared insights into the lightsabers that remain faithful to the film. The blades seem to be taken out of the air, not illuminated by physical waves.
It remains to be seen whether the guests will exercise them, but they say they will have something special in-store. Although they can’t talk much about it, they are developing a whole new lightsaber experience for their guests as part of the lightsaber training, Thacher said. It will not only make the guests wield a lightsaber, but it will also make them feel the power, the same experience we experience, for example, in Luke against the Millennium Falcon, where Luke learns to use the control and anticipates the explosion.
How to book Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser
On the first night, dinner in a club atmosphere with musical entertainment becomes an adventure in itself. On the second night, the dining room will taste the galaxy far, far away and present dishes inspired by planets across the universe.
When it’s time to settle into one of the 100 cabins and suites, the view from space is something you never knew you could see out the window. Passengers can choose between the first or second seat or ascend to a seat at the captain’s table for $30 per person. The standard cabin offers five berths with two adult bunk beds built into the walls, or you can book two bedrooms in the Grand Captains Suite, which provides eight berths with three windows and more views of the unknown.
Booking will open on October 28 to the general public with early access for holders of Disney Visa, Disney Vacation Club members, and Walt Disney World Annual Pass holders.
Similar to standard ocean cruises, single travelers pay double the price for cabin occupancy. Prices for standard cabins start at $1,209 per person per night for a group of two ($480.9 in total). A family of four pays $749 per person/night for three adults ten years and older and one child ($599.99 in whole). At these prices, it costs a few Galactic Credits to board.
How to have a futuristic Disney experience
The price includes one-day admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, all your excursions, Batuu meals, and onboard entertainment. You will be transferred from Disney’s Resort Hotel to the Galactic Star Cruiser for a two-day experience.
To get a taste of the Star Cruiser:
- Dive into Star Wars at Space 220, one of Disney Worlds’ newest restaurants in Epcot.
- Set in a tiny future, Space 220 simulates a space station 220 miles above Earth.
- Don’t wait too long before you fly into space.
The restaurant offers a relaxed atmosphere, and you can spend a day in the spa in a room with panoramic views of the Earth. Through the windows, you can see other guests floating up from the space station, and if you are lucky, you might even see a guest walking his dog in his spacesuit.
Reservations for seat 220 are possible for the main salon, which offers a prix fixe menu for $55 for lunch and $79 for dinner. Still, we recommend trying the menu in the lounge where you can relax in the room with a cocktail before heading back to the hustle and bustle of real life. But food is not a minor matter, because the ambiance is the main attraction.
