Life at Copper Mountain College

At Copper Mountain College, students can receive transferable credits to study at four-year universities, take career preparation courses, or take advanced techniques. Students can prepare for college-level classes at the Technology Learning Lab at the Dillon Center.  

Where is it located?

Copper Mountain College (CMC) is a public college in Joshua Tree, California. Located 6 miles east of Joshua Tree, Copper Mountain College (CMC), known as the Man-Made College, is funded almost entirely by local private funds for its first phase and substantial private aid for subsequent steps. Founded in 1966, Joshua Tree’s Copper Mountain College has approximately 1,800 Joshua Tree students, and its undergraduates provide continuing education for adults or those with military connections at the nearby Naval Air Force Center. Foundation of the college

The college was initially established in 1966 when residents of the Morongo Unified School District, comprising the Morongo Valley, Yucca Valley, Landers, Joshua Tree, and Twentynine Palms communities, decided to join the Desert Community College District. In 1984, state Senator James Brewer learned that Copper Mountain wanted to be a community college and introduced the Copper Mountain Community College District Act. Community leaders began proposing independence from Desert College, a natural next step.   

In June 2001, the Western Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Community and Junior College Accreditation granted CMC full accreditation status. The University is nationally accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the Commission on Advanced Colleges and Universities. In 2001, it was recognized as California’s 108th institution of its kind.

While nearly two-thirds of students nationwide take out loans to pay for their college education, the percentage of schools you plan to attend can vary widely. This is an increase from the 728 students who took online courses the previous year. Unfortunately, about $28 is 29% less than the average graduate salary of $39,802 per year.   

The school has a student-teacher ratio of 13 to 1, which aligns with the national average of 15 to 1.
