Laguna College of Arts and Design, All You Need to Know

Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD) is a private art and design school located in Laguna Beach, California. The college provides Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in 11 fields, three Master of Fine Arts degree programmes, and a post-baccalaureate certificate programme in Drawing and Painting to its more than 700 students.

LCAD maintains an affiliation agreement with the Florence Academy of Art for class credit summer study in Florence, Italy. The Art Students League has similar provisions for Painting and Drawing majors, and the Academy for Digital Entertainment at NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences has similar arrangements for Game Art majors. In 2011, the Communication University of China, Beijing, formed a partnership in the field of graphic design. Since 2014, the college has collaborated on a BFA/MAT dual degree programme with Vermont College of Fine Arts.

LCAD’s Mission

Laguna College of Art & Design prepares students for careers as creative artists and designers in a multicultural and ethnically diverse world by emphasising the acquisition of skills based on observation, representation, and concept development, as well as embracing the challenges of new, innovative technologies. The College is dedicated to sharing its resources with the broader community through continuing education and exhibition programmes, as well as presenting its curriculum through approved degree programmes that creatively mix studio practise with academic studies.

Facilities

The campus of Laguna College of Art and Design stretches from the Big Bend section of Laguna Coast Wilderness Park to downtown Laguna Beach. The college’s historic Main Campus is located on 4 acres in Laguna Canyon (16,000 m2). Suzanne Chonette Senior Studios and LCAD’s Administration Building are located across the street. There is also a Big Bend campus, a South Campus, student housing, and the LCAD Gallery at the college. The Dennis and Leslie Power Library, which has a multi-media collection of approximately 20,000 titles, is maintained by LCAD. Artists, festivals, art galleries, and beaches may all be found at Laguna Beach. Many students reside off-campus, while others live on-campus within walking distance of downtown Laguna Beach.

Location

You will immerse yourself in a really desirable existence as a student of LCAD. At dawn, take a leisurely stroll along one of Laguna Beach’s many postcard-perfect coves, or surf Trestles’ world-class waves, or ride Laguna Canyon’s white circle to double-black-diamond mountain bike routes, or skate one of the many local skate parks. You’ll spend your days in modern studios with bright, like-minded peers, world-class instructors, and visiting lecturers who will push you to grow as an artist. You may work for Nike, Blizzard, VANS, Hurley, or Cartoon Network as an intern. You’ll visit pieces of art by the world’s best painters and attend concerts with your favourite bands at some of the country’s most prestigious institutions and galleries.

Accreditation

The National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges both accredit Laguna College of Art and Design as a non-profit higher education institution (WASC).
